The U.S. Mission in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Translator in the Executive Section.

Opening Date : October 30, 2023
Closing Date : November 13, 2023

Work Schedule : Full-time (40 hours/week)
SALARY : *Ordinarily Resident (OR) : CFA 14,288,028 p.a. (Starting Salary)
(Position Grade : FSN-08)

ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT (OR) APPLICANTS (See Appendix for definition) MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION :

Serves as interpreter and translator to the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), their spouses for official business,and other members of the mission. Translates speeches, official documents, correspondence, etc. Interprets at meetings, events, functions, and during VIP and other visits, as required. Provides administrative, functional, project and research support requiring translation and/or French-English-local language knowledge. Incumbent serves as back-up to the Protocol Assistant.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

1. EDUCATION : A bachelor’s degree in Translation (English and French) is required.

2. EXPERIENCE : At least three (03) years of progressively responsible experience in English and French translation and interpretation in an international institution or any organization that executes international programs/policy (e.g., NGO or Embassy) is required.

3. LANGUAGE : - English : Fluent Speaking/Reading/Writing is required. "This may be tested.”

French : Fluent working knowledge Speaking/Reading/Writing is required. "This may be tested.”

One Local Language : Good working knowledge Speaking/Reading/Writing is required.

4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Computer skills must include word processing, e-mail, Internet, database management and related production of documents and reports. Adaptability, organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple translation tasks accurately and expeditiously is essential. Must have excellent writing skills. This may be tested.

5. JOB KNOWLEDGE Must have good knowledge of translation concepts used in rendering accurate and clear translations that capture the meaning and intent of an original document. Must be able to perform technical research related to diplomatic subjects (political, economic, military, etc.) for purposes of translation from English to French and French to English. Must have knowledge of government, diplomatic and international organizations, and civil society structure. Must have knowledge of host country protocol, local customs and practices.
