CONSULAR ASSISTANT

The U.S. Mission in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Consular Assistant in the Consular Section.
Opening Date : January 10, 2020
Closing Date : January 24, 2020

Work Schedule : Full-time (40 hours/week)
SALARY : *Ordinarily Resident (OR) : CFA 13,369,191. a. (Starting Salary)
(Position Grade : FSN-08)

ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT (OR) APPLICANTS (See Appendix for definition) MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION :
This is one of four local positions located in the Consular Section. Under the direction of the Consular Chief and direct supervision of the Senior Consular Assistant, incumbent performs a range of consular work in visa services, American citizen services and federal benefits programs, as well as other related duties. Applicant regularly works in the immigrant visa (IV), non-immigrant visa (NIV), American Citizen Services (ACS) and Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU) areas. Incumbent provides work guidance to one (01) Consular Assistant and serves as ACS subject matter expert.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

1. EDUCATION : Completion of bachelor’s degree in administration, law, English or translation is required.

2. EXPERIENCE : Three years of experience in office clerical work, involving customer service and teamwork is required.

3. LANGUAGE : Level IV (Fluent) English Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.
Level IV (Fluent) French Reading/Writing/Speaking is required. These may be tested.

4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Must be able to work with accuracy at a quick, rapid pace. Must have be able to deal effectively with the public, exercising tact, and be able to work under pressure and time constraints. Must have fast and accurate keyboarding and data entry skills. Must have good hand-eye coordination and dexterity. Must demonstrate attention to detail, ability to work effectively with a team as well as independently with minimal supervision. These may be tested.

5. JOB KNOWLEDGE : Must have good understanding of U.S. immigration laws, regulations and policies. Must have sound working knowledge of Burkinabe laws, customs, and civil documents. Must know how the ACS and visa processes
