The U.S. Mission in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Language Instructor in the Human Resources Office.

Opening Date : March 2, 2023
Closing Date : March 16, 2023

Work Schedule : Full-time (40 hours/week)
SALARY : *Ordinarily Resident (OR) : CFA 13,756,341 p.a. (Starting Salary)
(Position Grade : FSN-08)

ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT (OR) APPLICANTS (See Appendix for definition) MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION :

This position is located in the Human Resource Office of the Management Section and the incumbent reports directly to the HRO. Incumbent serves as Language Instructor for the Mission to include developing materials and teaching classes in French and Mooré to direct-hire Americans and EFMs. The incumbent also manages the English language program for Locally Employed Staff, recommending service providers and assessing the needs of LE Staff for appropriate instruction.

Manages the LES pre-employment English testing for the Mission. Participates in and/or coordinates a variety of special projects, including the Mission quarterly cross-cultural orientation event. May provide basic translation services to the front office and others, including help with speech writing. Job holder will perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

1. EDUCATION : A Bachelor’s degree in linguistics or language teaching is required.

2. EXPERIENCE : Three (3) years of experience in language teaching and/or teacher training is required. This must include one year of translation/interpretation experience.

3. LANGUAGE :

- English : - Fluent ; speaking/reading/writing, may include the ability to translate. "This may be tested”

-  French : - Fluent ; speaking/reading/writing, may include the ability to translate. "This may be tested”

-  Moore : - Fluent ; speaking/reading/writing, may include the ability to translate. "This may be tested”

4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Ability to develop the appropriate materials to support an efficient language program. Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels. Ability to motivate students, keep them interested and eager to continue enhancing their language skills. Typing skills required where speed and accuracy is essential. Ability to use basic computer and office software.

Ability to organize and manage schedule of direct-hire and EFM students alongside quarterly LE Staff English program and other ongoing tasks. Ability to propose, plan, and execute extracurricular language-learning activities in line with organizational policies. Development of computer proficiency and use of audio-visual equipment. These may be tested.

5. JOB KNOWLEDGE : Excellent knowledge of grammar, idiom, syntax, and pronunciation of French and Moore. Excellent teaching skills and a thorough knowledge of language teaching methodology. Knowledge of various language training methods and systems. Must have a good knowledge of the culture in Burkina Faso.

12b. Post-hire (Organizational) :

Must develop a good understanding of the organization and its language learning needs. Must learn and follow rules and regulations of the Department of State FAM/FAH concerning training and development for employees.
