About the role

This role focuses on providing support and guidance on gender and advocacy work for the implementation of the Hewlett Foundation-funded project on promoting equitable recovery for women in Burkina Faso and supporting other work on gender and economic justice. Christian AID Burkina Faso is one of eight country offices that have qualified for the regional Hewlett project on promoting equitable recovery for women through actions to : i) strengthen the influence on public decision-makers to adopt gender-just macroeconomic policies, ii) coordinate and conduct advocacy for the development of gender-just macroeconomic policies, and iii) enable capitalization and learning on macroeconomic and gender justice between Burkina Faso, other francophone countries in CA, and even anglophone countries if the outcomes from Burkina Faso prove to be truly relevant.

Specifically, the role holder will coordinate convening events between multiple stakeholders implementing gender justice programs in Burkina Faso, in order to create linkages between structures, organizations and actors. In addition, the role holder will support the advocacy work and implementation of Christian AID’s Safeguarding Policy. It is expected that the position will build linkages and relationships with other alliances, networks, donors, government ministries, departments and agencies, and other key stakeholders in the economic justice and gender spaces.

The Economic Justice, Advocacy and Policy Program Officer is part of the Christian Aid
Burkina Faso program team and works under the direct supervision of the Gender and Inequality SPO. The post holder will work closely with other Christian Aid Burkina Faso program staff, including the Senior Climate Change and Renewable Energy Officer and the Senior Emergency Response Projects Officer. In addition to ensuring the implementation of the "Fostering Gender-Fair Recovery" project, the role covers all of Christian Aid Burkina Faso’s advocacy work on the climate resilience program, the fight against gender-based violence and peacebuilding.

The role holder will represent Christian Aid in relevant meetings/activities and engage with relevant networks, while increasing the profile of Christian Aid’s work on gender and inclusion and its visibility in the country

About you

The role of the Economic Justice, Advocacy and Policy Program Officer sits within the coordinating unit for the Economic justice programme, reporting to the Gender & Inequality Senior Programme Officer. The role-holder will be based in the Christian Aid Burkina Faso office in Ouagadougou and be on a fixed term contract for 1 year.
The programme will take a participatory approach to developing and delivering gender and justice interventions that tackle inequalities exacerbated by gender gaps, the exact inequalities and impacts to be addressed, as well as the type of interventions to advocate for to be done. The programme will focus on advocacy for an embed a gender transformative approach to programming.
