ECONOMIC ASSISTANT

SALARY : *Ordinarily Resident (OR) : CFA 15,901,225 (Starting Salary)
(Position Grade : FSN-09)

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION :

This position is in the Economic/Commercial Section. The Foreign Assistance (FA) Program Assistant supports the Mission’s Integrated Country Strategy (ICS) and related budgeting process by administering the full range of activities. The incumbent prepares program information ; coordinates with a wide range of officials (government, civil society, other USG agencies and other donors) ; prepares recommendations ; administers and evaluates programs and projects ; and provides advice, recommendation, and input for preparation of the ICS. This position is supervised by the Economic/Commercial Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

1. EDUCATION : Undergraduate degree ("Licence") in Economics, International Development, Political Science, Law, or International Relations is required.
2. EXPERIENCE : 3 years of progressively responsible experience in economic analysis, grants management, project implementation, and coordinating programs (with bilateral and multilateral organizations, the public sector, and NGOs) is required.

3. LANGUAGE : English - (Fluency) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.
French - (Fluency) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required. This may be tested.

4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Computer capabilities with standard software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Internet) is required. Ability to translate English into French and vice versa is required. Knowledge of basic accounting and money management is required. Strong organizational skills are required. Grant management skills are required. Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy is required. Must be able to take initiative. Typing skill with speed and accuracy. Ability to do statistics required. This may be tested.

5. JOB KNOWLEDGE : Job holder must have a detailed knowledge of general accounting/reporting procedures as well as a sound economic background that will be used for special projects. Knowledge of the administrative organization of the Burkinabe Government and understanding of ethnicity in Burkina Faso is required.
