The U.S. Mission in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Shipping Assistant in the General Services OfficeU.S. EMBASSY OUAGADOUGOU VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT # 2021-025 SHIPPING ASSISTANT ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT (OR) APPLICANTS MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION. BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION : Located in the General Services Office, this position has complete responsibility for arranging and facilitating incoming and outgoing shipments and customs clearances for an Embassy/post, including privately owned vehicles (POV), and other property of U.S. citizen personnel and of U.S. Government equipment and supplies. Also handles customs clearance for inbound government shipments/procurements. Position is supervised by the Shipping Supervisor FSN 08. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED : 1. EDUCATION : Completion of secondary school is required. 2. EXPERIENCE : Two years of progressively responsible experience in the transportation, shipping and customs or a logistics required. 3. LANGUAGE : English - (Good working knowledge) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required. French- (Fluency) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required. This may be tested. 4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment at multiple locations (airport, gov. offices, Embassy residences, chancery, etc.). Job requires the ability to multi-task and prioritize work and operate with minimal direct supervision. Must have problem solving skills to resolve technical and bureaucratic delays and be able to think creatively for solutions when needed. Must be able to read complex laws and regulation for detail and be detail-oriented in general. Incumbent needs a driver’s license to drive a government vehicle around town and will occasionally need to lift heavy items up to 22 kilograms. This may be tested. 5. JOB KNOWLEDGE : Knowledge of Burkina Faso customs regulations and procedures. Knowledge of vehicles registration process and tax exemptions process in Burkina Faso.
