Duration of the contract : 6 months consultancy with possible extension and/or full-time employment

Dignity is a non-government organization based in Copenhagen, Denmark. We employ 103 persons 29 of whom work in the international department. Our projects focus on the prevention of torture and violence and rehabilitation of survivors of violence. We wish to transfer our many years of experience and expertise for working in fragile and low resource contexts to the Sahel region where the multiple crises have created an immense and urgent need for strengthening initiatives to prevent violence and strengthen access to MHPSS and justice for traumatized survivors. We currently work in the Middle East, in Africa, in Asia, Central and South America and in Eastern Europe. Our programs are developed in close cooperation with our local partners and local stakeholders.

We are looking for a local consultant who will play a key role in helping us establish an office in Burkina Faso as well as providing orientation and technical support in the conception and implementation of Dignity’s first pilot project in Burkina Faso.

The consultant is also expected to assist us in the development of solid relations with local stakeholders such as the National Human Rights Commission, human rights organizations, relevant ministries and international actors.

Tasks and responsibilities of the consultant

Establishment of an office

 Support DIGNITY in establishing an office in Burkina Faso
 Support DIGNITY to become officially registered in the country

Building up a programme

 Support DIGNITY in the identification of local partners
 Support DIGNITY in the conceptualization and development of new projects in Burkina Faso
 Contribute to concretize, develop, and implement DIGNITY’s strategic work in the Sahel region

Building relations

 Support DIGNITY in developing solid relations with local stakeholders, including the National Human Rights Commission, Human rights organizations, health structures, development organisations, MHPSS structures, and relevant ministries ;

 Support DIGNITY in developing relations with relevant international actors present in Burkina Faso ;
 Represent DIGNITY during relevant meetings and events in Burkina Faso.

Administration and management

 Support t DIGNITY’s partners in Burkina Faso in managing project activities (elaboration of TORs, logistics, monitoring and evaluation and financial and narrative reporting)
 Report regularly to DIGNITY’s about the progress, challenges and needs for adjustments of strategies and plans
 Inform DIGNITY regularly on the human rights situation as well as the socio-political and security events in Burkina Faso

 Assist the preparation and follow-up of DIGNITY’s missions in Burkina Faso
 Ensure interaction between DIGNITY and its partners and donors potentially relevant for DIGNITY’s projects in Burkina Faso

 Inform DIGNITY on new potential partnerships and funding opportunties in Burkina Faso
 Contribute to DIGNITY’s intern and extern communication

Knowledge, competences and experience required

The consultant needs minimum
• A university diploma – at least baccalaureate + 5 in social sciences, humanities, or law
• A solid level in written and oral French and English (including reporting capacity)
• Solid IT skills (Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook, Internet, skype)
Professional experience
• At least 10 years of professional experience with responsibilities in administration and/or in NGO Development and/or Humanitarian work
• 5 years of professional experience in human rights/rehabilitation work in the Sahel region

• Solid experience with project management and development and implementation of larger programmes
• Solid experience in facilitating processes with participation of multiple stakeholders, both locals, national and international

Project management experience and skills :

• Demonstrated skills in the utilization of a Logical Framework Approach and Theories of Change

• Solid experience in project monitoring and evaluation
• Demonstrated skills in budget follow-up and reporting
• Demonstrated written skills and experience with donor compliance and communication

Other appreciated skills and knowledge

• Strong coordination and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team player
• Ability to adapt and be flexible
• Solid knowledge of the environment of human rights actors (state and non-state) in Burkina Faso

• A solid knowledge of the environment of civil society organisations in Burkina Faso
A solid knowledge of the justice and health sector in Burkina Faso

Work conditions

The consultant (he or she) will work full time (40 hours a week) in Ouagadougou, with missions to visit local partners and the intervention areas of DIGNITY’s future projects in Burkina Faso.

The consultant will refer to the Senior Regional Manager placed at DIGNITY’s office in Copenhagen and have ongoing dialogue with DIGNITY’s Project Lead responsible for projects in for Burkina Faso. Furthermore, the consultant will be part of DIGNITY’s working group for the Sahel region with representatives from DIGNITY’s International Programme Dept and technicians from DIGNITY’s Legal and Health Dept.
