ECONOMIC COMMERCIAL ASSISTANT

The U.S. Mission in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Economic Commercial Assistant in the Economic Section.

Work Schedule : Full-time (40 hours/week)
SALARY : *Ordinarily Resident (OR) : CFA 15,901,225. a. (Starting Salary)
(Position Grade : FSN-09)

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION :
Employee is one of two economic Specialist positions located in the Economic Section, and directly reports to the FS03 American Economic Officer. Incumbent conducts information gathering, research, analysis, and reporting in the field of economic reporting, and promotes U.S. private sector interest in Burkina Faso. S/he attends meetings, translates, serves as notetaker in English and in French, briefs Embassy officials to include the Ambassador on economic and commercial developments, handles logistics, and organizes official events. Job holder is a Grant Officer Representative managing grants.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

1. EDUCATION : Bachelor’s in economics, Development, Political Science, Law, or International Relations is required.
2. EXPERIENCE : Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in social, political, or economic analysis and research, work with an economic focused NGO, chief of staff or assistant to a senior government or elected official, newspaper reporting on economic matters, university teaching, is required.

3. LANGUAGE : (Fluent) English Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.
(Fluent) French Reading/Writing/Speaking is required. This will be tested.

4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Ability to interpret the needs of U.S. officials for analysis of current economic developments. Ability to maintain contacts at all levels with individuals in the government, and private sector. Ability to obtain material from varied sources and prepare reports/analysis in a precise, accurate and comprehensible manner. Ability to translate documents from French to English and vice-versa. Accurate and quick keyboarding skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). This will be tested.

5. JOB KNOWLEDGE : Excellent knowledge of Burkina Faso’s institutions, private sector, and business sector. Good knowledge of international relations. Some knowledge about U.S. foreign policy and interests.
